Sports Funding

Our vision at Middleton St Mary’s is that all children enjoy and develop positive attitudes to Physical Education and sport.

Through Physical Education and sport we aim to:-

  • Improve fitness, health and well-being.
  • Promote physical literacy, active participation and lifelong learning.
  • Allow each child to fulfil their potential.

The government is providing additional funding for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school head teachers. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

Purpose of funding
At Middleton St Mary’s we are working with other schools in the locality. Some of the funding is being used to employ a teacher to develop and co-ordinate inter school sports. Our school is also part of Children Leeds sports partnership. Staff will be able to improve their teaching of PE by attending more courses and being supported by the specialist PE teachers in school. The funding will also be used to provide after school clubs. 2015 we are purchasing the REAL PE scheme for the whole of school - this will help support all staff deliver the new skills based curriculum.
