Relationships, Sex & Health Education
At Middleton St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, we believe a high-quality Relationship and Health Education helps create a safe school community in which our pupils can grow, learn and develop positive, healthy behaviour for life. Our school follows guidance from the Department for Education’s (DfE) July 2025 Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education that stipulates that schools must deliver Relationship Education and Health Education to all pupils. In addition to this guidance, we have considered the wishes and understanding of pupils, who complete the yearly MyHealthMySchool survey, to develop a sequence of work which is continually adapted and tailored by teachers to ensure that children receive a relevant and enriching RSHE education that enables them to engage with society successfully.
The RSHE curriculum will provide a vehicle to promote our school vision and values, which comply with the relevant provisions of the Equality Act 2010, under which disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, race, religion or belief, and sexual orientation are amongst the protected characteristics.
We aim to:
· Create an inclusive learning environment where everyone feels safe, valued and happy and is able to achieve to the best of their ability.
· Develop respect to ensure children contribute to a society where everyone is valued as an individual and treated fairly.
· Encourage high aspirations in order for children to make a positive contribution beyond school and build confidence in their knowledge of our role in wider society.
· Promote and celebrate a family ethos where we work as a team for the good of others.
· Encourage all to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, manage emotions effectively, treat others with kindness and be critical in their understanding of healthy relationships.
· Empower all staff to achieve their full potential and deliver high quality RSHE through positive staff development.
